Avantha Group Company CG organised a cultural event to commemorate the completion of seven years of active Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) implementation in and around its Kanjurmarg factory area, in Mumbai. Some of the CSR successes highlighted at this event were the renovation of  the local municipal school building, educational scholarships, technical training and computer literacy programs, regular health check-ups that included mammography and gynaecology tests, women’s training in entrepreneurship and handicraft making, and tree plantation.  In light of the upcoming International Women’s Day on March 8, this event also placed special emphasis on women’s empowerment and health programs that were carried out.

For the past seven years, CG along with its NGO partners, have undertaken several CSR activities in Kanjurmarg, which has produced visible results. Their flagship activity – the school building renovation and subsequent support in the form of school teachers and free tuition classes, has raised student attendance and quality of education.  The school now runs classes upto 6th Std, in the English medium.

In separate education assistance programs 52 students received scholarships, and 50 students received college fee assistance from CG. Also, students who received vocational and technical training and tuition classes are now pursuing diploma studies in Civil Engineering, Fashion Designing, Motor Mechanics and even working in the Banking & Insurance sector.

Schoolgirl dropouts who were sponsored for nursing courses are now employed or undergoing internship at a local hospital. Women have formed Self Help Groups and started their own business enterprises where they earn between INR 4000 – 25000 per month; some have been empowered to get employed in preparing and feeding children under Indian government sponsored mid-day meal scheme.

At CG, CSR is real and active with all 1500 CG employees located in 85 countries, around the world.  All CG offices around the world celebrate similar events to report and highlight their own successes and learning.BWi
